
Employees’ Housing, Accommodations and Amenities
JTKSM through the Employees’ Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodations dan Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446) enforces the requirements and regulations that must be followed by employers when providing housing, accommodation and facilities for employees. Apart from that, the enforcement also aims to create a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment. Act 446 only applies in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
Act 446 applies at two levels:
- Parts II and III relating to housing and facilities apply to any place of employment located outside the area of the City Council, Municipal Council, or federal territory. This place of employment includes an estate that is 20 hectares of agricultural land or any mine.
- Part IIIA relating to accommodation applies to all employees other than those employed on the estate.
